Top News Briefs: Nike Shoe Incident; Roger Stone Gagged; “Empire” Cuts Jussie Smollett
Here are three top news briefs.
The first — Nike lost $1.1 billion dollars in stock value after Duke basketball star Zion Williamson’s Nike shoe ripped apart at the beginning of a game on Wednesday night. His knee was sprained and he had to leave the game.
Barack Obama was there and was filmed saying, “His shoe broke.”
Williamson will be okay — he will be back after one to two weeks.
Nike is the exclusive sponsor for Duke and pays the school and other athletic programs millions of dollars.
The second news — the federal judge overseeing Roger Stone’s case, Amy Berman Jackson, has ordered him to not speak in public about his case, the investigation, or any other person who is involved in the investigation. It is a full gag order.
This is after Stone posted an Instagram post criticizing Judge Jackson that had her face on it with crosshairs in the corner.
The judge said there was nothing ambiguous about a crosshairs.
The third news — The producers of “Empire” announced they would remove Jussie Smollett’s role from the final two episodes of the season.
The show will air new episodes starting March 13 and it will have Smollett’s “Jamal” role in it on some episodes, but not the last two.
Smollett was arrested by Chicago Police yesterday for filing a false police report.

Patriots Owner Robert Kraft Charged With Soliciting Prostitution
The current Super Bowl champion New England Patriots’ owner, Robert Kraft, is being accused of soliciting prostitution at a spa in Jupiter, Florida.
He has been charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution which is a misdemeanor.
Police said they conducted a raid of the spa and have surveillance video and body cameras that shows Kraft receiving sexual services.
The raid was done after an undercover sting which was a part of a human trafficking probe.
Investigators say that the women at the spa, many of them from China, were being held as sex slaves and were not allowed to leave the spa.
Police Chief Daniel Kerr confirmed at a press conference that Kraft was one of the individuals charged, but Kraft is not being accused of being a part of any human trafficking.
Kraft’s wife Myra Hiatt died in 2011 and has been dating an actress, Ricki Noel Nader.
A spokesman for Kraft commented, “We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity” and did not add further comment.
R. Kelly Indicted On 10 Counts of Child Sexual Abuse
Musician R. Kelly, 52, has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
The state attorney announced these charges today at a news conference after a judge in Cook County, Illinois approved an arrest warrant.
This comes after another attorney, Michael Avenatti, said he recently provided the Cook County state attorney’s office a video of R. Kelly having sex with a minor.
In the video which was almost 43 minutes long, the girl appears to identify herself as 14 years old.
It is not clear if the charges and the video are directly connected. It is also not clear how many victims there are, but the prosecutors say they ranged from 13 to 16 years old.
R. Kelly’s attorney said that he has not been notified of these charges and has in the past said his client denies committing these crimes. His first court date is listed as March 8th.
R. Kelly has been accused many times in the past of having sexual relations with underage girls.
Samsung’s New $2,000 Folding Phone
Samsung announced that they will launch a new phone, Galaxy Fold.
It will cost about $2,000 after taxes. This phone is unique because it is a hybrid between a smartphone and a tablet. See this.
The Galaxy Fold has two screens: 4.6 inches on the outside. When you open up the phone, it becomes a tablet that is 7.3 inches.
Samsung says that it can fold at least 200,000 before it starts to wear out. This should last you at least 5 years if you fold it 100 times a day. There are a total of 6 cameras in it: three in the back, two on the inside and one on the cover.
The phone will be available through AT&T and T-Mobile in the US starting on April 26th and May 3rd in Europe.
It will be available in four different colors. Would you buy one of these?
New Election Ordered in Disputed NC House Race
This is an update on the US House election fraud in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District.
On Thursday, the North Carolina’s election board ordered a new election.
There was a hearing this week to review evidence that Republican Mark Harris’ campaign allegedly hired a person, Leslie McCrae Dowless, to illegally collect voters’ absentee ballots during the election versus Democrat Dan McCready.
Harris and his son, John, testified at the hearing. John testified that he had warned his father multiple times about Dowless about his suspicious activities since mid-2016, but that he ignored him. Harris cried.
State officials accused Harris of lying in court. Harris said he unintentionally made false statements and said he had a hard time remembering things because he had two strokes.
Harris then called for a new election. He was previously resistant to it. He also said he and his campaign team were “not aware or condone” these illegal actions.
Though Harris now supports a new election, it is not clear if he will run again partly due to health reasons.
The board did not immediately decide on the date for the new elections.
