Hello, welcome to the Daily Moth! It is Friday, November 23. Ready for news?
Last night in Birmingham, Alabama, there was a shooting at a mall. There was a fight between a 18-year old and a 21-year old gunman, who opened fire and shot at the 18-year old twice.
A police officer shot and killed the gunman. A 12-year old girl was shot once in the shootout. The 18-year old is in serious condition, while the girl is in stable condition after surgery.
The Chinese government has started their “social credit system” that gives their citizens and organizations a “score” on how trustworthy they are.
If a person or organization’s score is below a certain point, they will be blacklisted and barred from flying or traveling on trains.
A news report from the “Independent” said millions of citizens have already been blocked in several regions where China has started implementing the system. It will be in full effect in 2020.
In Dallas, there was a huge fire at a three-story apartment building on Wednesday morning. A mother on the third floor dropped her 1-year old baby to a man waiting below, and he caught it.
Video shows residents running back and forth on the parking lot, holding a mattress, to rescue people jumping off.
Three people, including a firefighter, were injured, but there were no deaths. About 40 residents have lost their homes.
In September, a black FedEx worker in Oregon, Timothy Warren, was driving through a neighborhood when a white man, Joseph Magnuson, yelled for him to stop because he was driving too fast. He used racist slurs, including the n-word.
Warren got out and approached Magnuson, both yelling at each other. Magnuson threw a drink and tried to punch at him, but missed. Warren punched back, connecting above his left eye. He fell to the ground, briefly passing out, and later died that night.
Prosecutors just decided not to charge Warren with a crime because he acted in self-defense. They also said Magnuson had extremely poor health.
The mayor of Tijuana, Mexico has declared an international humanitarian crisis because they can’t deal with the caravan of almost 5,000 mostly Central American migrants who are in the city.
The mayor said the Mexican federal government has neglected their responsibilities and now Tijuana has to spend almost $27,000 daily to take care of the migrants and can’t afford to continue. He has asked the UN and other groups to help.
In Milwaukee, a 13-year old girl, Sandra Parks, died on Monday when she was shot in the chest from a stray bullet fired by someone outside. She was in her bedroom and told her mother, “Momma, I’m shot.” She died that night.
Two years ago, Parks wrote an essay named, “Our Truth,” about gun violence in her neighborhood. She said the crime depressed her and wanted to see peace and empathy. She won an award for the essay.
Police arrested two male suspects in connection with the shooting. They had two AK-47 rifles with them. There is a GoFundMe for her family that has raised over $20,000.
Did you know that children of deaf parents sleep better? See why.
Chionya: Hello, my name is Chionya. Do you know what deaf people with children tend to do? I am a mother. This is my son, almost 2 years old. He is tired and you know how they cry and get worn out, so I hold him and I’m still awake. I talk in ASL and as I sign, I’m “rocking” the baby. He’s dozed off. Really? Anyways have a nice day. Peace out.
I love that, that’s a cute boy. Thank you, Chionya for the video.
That is all for this week! Have a wonderful weekend and stay with the light!
