Hello, welcome to the Daily Moth! It is Friday, August 10. Ready for news?

NFL Players Protest During Preseason Games

In NFL preseason matches in recent days, several players for different teams have protested by kneeling, raising a fist, or staying in the locker room during the national anthem.

President Trump noticed this, tweeting that the NFL players should stand proudly for your National Anthem or be suspended without pay. He said that a football game is not the place to protest.

The NFL had announced a strict policy against the protests earlier this summer, but suspended it a few weeks ago during negotiations with the NFL Players Association.

The NFL said they won’t punish the players.

One player for the New Orleans Saints, Cam Jordan, said Trump should focus on the white nationalist rally in D.C. this weekend. He said that Trump is acting like a child.

D.C. On High Alert for White Supremacist Rally

Washington, D.C. is preparing for a lot of tension this Sunday. There will be an “Unite the Right” rally where hundreds of white nationalists / white supermacists are expected to come to a park outside of the White House.

This weekend is the one-year anniversary of the violent and deadly rally in Charlottesville, Virginia where a 32-year old woman, Heather Heyer, was killed by a white supermacist ramming a car into a crowd. This was a year ago.

The D.C. Mayor Bowser said the city would use it’s emergency operations center and will be on high alert. She said we have people coming to our city to spew hate.

The D.C. police chief said guns will be banned, even for owners with legal permits. He said the white nationalists and counterprotesters will be separated.

The organizer of the rally, Jason Kessler, is the same person who organized the Charlottesville rally.

There are several organizations that wants to show up before the rally starts to shut it down, saying they are mobilizing against Nazis and will outnumber them.

KFC To Hold Sensitivity Training After Deaf Woman’s Complaint

270 KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell restaurant franchises across the nation will provide sensitivity training after a deaf woman, Bobbie Cole, from Byram, Mississippi said employees at a KFC restaurant made fun of her in May at a drive-thru.

Bobbie’s daughter, Donna, who is a CODA and can sign, posted an emotional video about what happened, and that video went viral with 1.5 million views. I did a news video about this two months ago.

A nonprofit organization, Disability Rights Mississippi, represented Bobbie in talks with a management company who owns and oversees the 270 restaurants, Franchise Management Inc. (FMI), based in Canada. They will provide sensitivity training.

FMI said they have looked at the Byram KFC’s surveillance video and thought there was a misunderstanding about what happened that day. They said the employees were minors, that it was a misunderstanding.

But they are going forward with the sensitivity training and FMI said they are willing to put signs to welcome deaf people to drive up to the window to make orders.

Three International News Briefs: Canada Shooting; Yemen Airstrike; Tension With Turkey

Here are three international news briefs

The first — In New Brunswick, Canada — at least four people were killed in a shooting this morning. Two of the deceased are police officers.

Police said they have one suspect in custody. The situation is “contained” with no threat to public.

There is not much information yet on exactly what happened. The shooting is in a residential neighborhood.

The second news brief — in Yemen, at least 29 children died from a Saudi-led military airstrike that hit a bus.

There has been a civil war in the country between the Yemen government, who is supported by Saudi Arabia, against Houthi rebels. There has been a war since and the bombing is related.

The Saudi government said they would investigate what happened. The UN also said they would investigate.

The third news brief — President Trump tweeted that the U.S. would increase tariffs (trade taxes) against Turkey, with 50% on steel and 20% on aluminum.

The Trump administration has recently called on Turkey to free an American pastor, Craig Brunson, who is under house arrest. But there have been no action on this.

Because of this, the Trump administration imposed sanctions against Turkish officials two weeks ago and now they have placed the tariffs.

It has caused Turkey’s currency, the lira, to take a steep drop in value. Turkey’s President Erdogan said they are in an economic war. Trump said our relations are not good.

That is all for today. Have a wonderful weekend and stay with the light!
