Utah House Votes 73-0 to Change "Hearing Impaired" to Deaf/HoH

February 9, 2017

The Utah legislature is finally getting the memo that Deaf people don’t like to be called “hearing impaired” — the House voted 73-0 on Tuesday in favor to change “hearing impaired” for “deaf or hard of hearing” in all Utah law.

The sponsor of the bill, HB 60, is Rep. Norm Thurston (R-Provo). Nice. Check out the bill here: http://le.utah.gov/~2017/bills/static/HB0060.html

The Utah Association of the Deaf - UAD posted a thank-you message to Rep. Norman Thurston on their Facebook page.
