Iranian Baby Girl Gets Heart Treatment After Travel Ban

February 8, 2017

This is Fatemeh Reshad, a 4-month old baby girl from Iran. She has a heart defect that required immediate surgery to save her life. Her uncle is a U.S. citizen who lives in Portland, Oregon. Several weeks ago the uncle wanted to bring the baby and the family to the U.S. so she could have heart surgery, but they were barred because of Trump’s executive order. But an Oregon senator and governors of NY and Oregon helped the girl get a waiver from the ban — on the same day the Seattle federal judge issued a TRO (temporary restraining order) against the ban. The girl was able to come to Oregon yesterday and she will be treated by doctors at the OHSU Doernbecher Childern’s Hospital.
