A 24-year old Deaf man, Zachary Seguin — from Michigan — was sentenced to 19 months in prison in December for sex crimes with a minor — a 9-year old boy he met at a summer camp.
In November he pled guilty to two counts of felony assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, and in exchange prosecutors dismissed three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Local media sources said court documents show Zachary stayed at the boy’s residence for “several weeks” between March and June. When prosecutors charged him with the crimes, he admitted he had repeated sexual activities with the boy during that time. He also told the child not to tell his mother.
One of the prosecutors said in court that the boy’s family invited Zachary to their home to be a role model for their son — and said he had a lack of remorse and that this could happen again.
Zachary’s lawyer said that he was a model student, that he “overcame” his hearing disability and asked the judge not to put him in prison.
Zachary, in the front of the judge, apologized to the boy and the boy’s family and said that he knew he violated their trust in him, that it was vile, and that it never should have happened in the first place.
Zachary was a Gallaudet student, it appears he graduated last spring. He was on the soccer team and on a fraternity.
He is now in Parnall Correctional Facility. He was sentenced on December 16 and his earliest possible release date is July 2018.
